To celebrate the UAE’s 47th National Day, a host of events and festivities took place at Global Village recently. Expressing happiness on the occasion, Bader Anwahi, CEO, Global Village, said, “Commemorating the founding of this great nation, we at Global Village are proud of our tradition of bringing all people of the world together in order to celebrate and be happy. The UAE has, within 47 years, become one of the most advanced, affluent, and well-developed countries in the world, thanks to our wise leadership.” An exclusive event for the National Day celebrations is the Operetta – ‘Zayed: Leader of the Humans’, that was performed by a cast of more than 25 and was a dedication to the father and founder of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It was produced by Ornina Arts and Events and directed by Nasser Ibrahim, well-known across the region for developing some of the finest national and international shows. The Global Village fireworks have always been a favourite for UAE residents and tourists. For the 47th National Day, a mega-musical fireworks display also took place.

As part of the 47th UAE National Day celebrations, many institutions hosted a number of traditional events and activities. Emirates Airlines showcased various elements derived from the cultural heritage of the UAE which included Al Ayala Dance, a traditional Emirati dance performance, and Henna Art, which is considered an integral part of UAE celebrations. Manzil Downtown honoured the life and achievements of the nation’s founding father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan by hosting an exclusive Emirati poetry evening on of November 26. Her Highness Sheikha Dr Hind Al-Qassimi, members of board of directors, influential Emirati Culture and Heritage personalities, poets, folkloric musicians and media have joined Manzil Downtown management in honour of this special occasion. Sharihan Al Mashary, General Manager, Manzil Downtown, said, “Our nation connects through poetry and it is part of our Emirati culture, heritage and identity”, and this is how Manzil Downtown commemorates the UAE National Day and Year of Zayed.” The Flag Island, one of Sharjah’s tourist, family and leisure destinations, hosted music show in collaboration with the Higher Committee of National Day Celebrations in Sharjah. Ras Al Khaimah’s staycations are maintaining their popularity as the best way to celebrate the UAE National Day on December 2 – the nation’s 47th anniversary. According to Haitham Mattar, CEO, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Authority, focus on heritage and cultural activities is having strong appeal with visitors, saying they are expected to push occupancy rates at the emirate’s hotels and resorts for the long weekend to reach more than 90 per cent. He said, “We expect to continue seeing a rise in the occupancy rates of the emirate’s hotels during this long weekend, especially for those looking for exceptional value for money hotel stays and adrenaline-packed adventure activities. I encourage visitors to explore the unique tourist attractions in Ras Al Khaimah, its distinct hotels and get out and get closer to nature.” On December 1, the UAE’s top singers Hussein Al Jasmi and Aida Al Manhali will take to a giant stage in front of the signature Julphar Towers for a free-to-attend cultural musical performance, singing and enacting the history, heritage and culture of Emiratis. Attended by His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler, Ras Al Khaimah, the celebrations will start at 8pm and will be followed by a fireworks spectacular. Residents and visitors will also get the chance to witness a spectacular air show performed by Fursan Al Emarat, the aerobatics team of the UAE Air Force, on November 27, 2018 at the Old Corniche, Ras Al Khaimah.

International hotel bookings are up by 35 per cent compared to domestic bookings for UAE National Day Weekend, according to recent data analysis by Hotelscombined. The most popular international destinations for the holiday weekend include Muscat, Mecca, London, Medina and Istanbul. Amer Alhalabi, Regional Manager MENA, HotelsCombined said, “The UAE local or expat population love to take advantage of long weekends or holiday breaks. Their target destinations are always planned on the basis of offers or air fare. Be it a domestic or regional holiday arrangement, planning and booking of these trips are usually done in advance to secure availability and good prices.” HotelsCombined also analysed the top international hotels for the UAE National Day Weekend, looking at bookings from November 30 to December 3. Al Areen Hotel Apartment in Oman is the most popular, while Golden Tulip Resort Dibba and Hormuz Grand Muscat ranked second and third.
