The first Louvre is set to open on November 11, 2017, in the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi after nearly a decade of planning and construction. His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), said, “Louvre Abu Dhabi embodies our belief that nations thrive on diversity and acceptance, with a curatorial narrative that emphasises how interconnected the world has always been. The museum represents the latest innovation in a long-standing tradition of cultural preservation nurtured by the founding leaders of the UAE. Louvre Abu Dhabi forms one element of Abu Dhabi’s cultural strategy, which safeguards our rich heritage and catalyses creativity. Investment in a vibrant cultural ecosystem supports the UAE’s economic diversification and development as a modern, dynamic society. Louvre Abu Dhabi will inspire a new generation of cultural leaders and creative thinkers to contribute to our rapidly-changing and tolerant nation.” Tickets for the museum will cost 60 AED for general admission and 30 AED for ages between 13 and 22, as well as UAE education professionals. Free entry will apply to members of the museum’s loyalty programme, children under 13 years, ICOM or ICOMOS members, journalists, and visitors with special needs (referred to visitors with determination in the UAE) as well as their companion. The architect behind this work of art is Pritzker Prize winner, Jean Nouvel. Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and TUI Group have come together to highlight Abu Dhabi’s leisure attractions to the Ukrainian market. TUI Group, one of the leading tour advisors in the region, liaised with TCA Abu Dhabi in promoting Abu Dhabi as a top travel destination, with the Ukrainian market having grown approximately 25 per cent in the last year, with visitor numbers continuing to rise. A Ukrainian delegation was taken on a tour of the Emirati capital to showcase a variety of tourist attractions, from historical and cultural spots to the leading leisure and adventure attractions. As part of the tour, the group experienced the fastest roller-coaster in the world at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, learned about the cultural importance of falcons at the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, were given a tour of the beautiful Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque which was named the world’s second favourite landmark by Trip Advisor in 2016, and visited Warehouse421, a gallery in Mina Zayed port. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Chairman of the Executive Council, issued a decree announcing the launch of an Events Licensing System (ELS) to be implemented by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), a standardised and unified online platform that streamlines the official registration of all events administered, organised and managed across Abu Dhabi emirate. The new online licensing system will support Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector, providing the necessary resources to achieve sustainability and growth services include an expanded database on performance, enhanced quality of touristic events and measured success indicators. HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of TCA Abu Dhabi, will form a committee to oversee the implementation of strategies and policies surrounding the coordination of events in Abu Dhabi between the relevant authorities, by providing support for necessary services and facilities, while enhancing the contribution of government, private sector, and relevant stakeholders when organising events in the emirate. The introduction of the ELS will drive tourism industry growth within the emirate through improving event planning, and by developing industry best practice in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.
