Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) announced that it will be commencing services to Seoul, South Korea from 16 August 2022. SAUDIA will operate its state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner, configured in two classes with 24 flat bed seats in Business Class and 274 seats in Guest Class, featuring inflight television screens at every seat with up to 5,000 entertainment hours. Engr. Ahmed Alwassiah, the Acting Chief Executive Officer, SAUDIA said: “We look forward to welcoming guests onboard our flights to and from Seoul this summer. The flight will takeoff from Jeddah on 16 August as SV898, leaving at 01:00hrs with a quick stop at Riyadh and arriving at Incheon International Airport at 19:50hrs local time. The return flight SV899 will depart Seoul Incheon at 21:40hrs, arriving in Riyadh at 02:10hrs and Jeddah at 04:45hrs on the next day. Flight schedules have been timed to provide convenient access to the Kingdom, and optimum connection opportunities to Middle East, Africa and European destination. The Higher Organising Committee of IWAS World Games Sharjah 2019 confirmed that 1,462 participants from 50 countries are set to compete in the world’s largest wheelchair and amputee sports championship in Sharjah from February 10-16. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member Ruler of Sharjah, the IWAS World Games has returned to the emirate for the second time after its successful debut in the city in 2011. The eighth edition of the world championship brings together seven games including archery, athletics, badminton, swimming, shooting, table tennis and wheelchair fencing. New details of the upcoming biennial sports championship were revealed at a press conference held recently at Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort & Spa. His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment has announced that the UAE will contribute US$1.5 million annually for the period 2019 to 2021 cumulatively amounting to US$4.5 million to fund the projects carried out by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The announcement was made at the GGGI’s Assembly and Council in the presence of His Excellency Dr Al Zeyoudi, who led the UAE delegation at the assembly. Reiterating the UAE’s commitment to green development, His Excellency Dr Al Zeyoudi said, “In the UAE, we are resolved to achieving a green economy as per the UAE Green Agenda 2030 adopted by the UAE Cabinet in 2015. During 2017-2018, we have made a lot of progress in the implementation of the Green Agenda 2030 and key policy developments with the assistance of the GGGI Abu Dhabi office team. The UAE Cabinet adopted the National Climate Change Plan 2050 in June 2017, which consolidates the country’s climate mitigation and adaptation initiatives under one integrated framework. As part of the Climate Plan implementation, we have recently conducted a comprehensive climate risk assessment across four key sectors and identified priority climate risks that require us to develop appropriate adaptation measures.” Highlighting one of the initiatives in green development in the UAE, His Excellency added, “The development of green growth indices is not new to us. The Jeju Island Tourism Organisation, South Korea has revealed a 20 per cent increase in the number of UAE tourists that have visited South Korea’s Jeju Island during the first half of 2017. The figures were presented in a special promotional event held recently at the JW Marriott Marquis in Dubai. The event was aimed at further promoting the increasing popularity of Jeju Island to a potential UAE and Middle East market. Jeju Island, the largest island off the coast of the Korean Peninsula, has become a top destination for tourists visiting the country, primarily because of its natural World Heritage Site, Jeju Volcanic Island, and Lava Tubes. Other top attractions in the island include Mount Halla, the Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls, Hallim Park, Yakcheonsa Temple, Manjanggul and the Jeju Stone Statue Park. Dubai World Central (DWC), Dubai’s second international airport, achieved a new milestone when it welcomed its first scheduled A380 passenger flight – Korean Air’s flight KE9951 from Incheon International Airport in South Korea. The flight was the first of series of scheduled charter flights the carrier will operate to DWC in addition to their existing scheduled operations at Dubai International. The scheduled charter operations serve seasonal demand for Dubai cruise. The first flight was given a traditional water salute on arrival. DWC welcomed a total of 850,633 passengers in 2016 and is currently served by 27 passenger carriers, operating an average of 108 flights weekly to 44 international destinations.
