His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, launched ‘Sharjah Sustainable City’, the first urban mixed-use project in the emirate, which meets the highest standards of green economy and environmental sustainability. It is the outcome of a strategic partnership between Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Diamond Developers.  The AED 2 billion project is spread across 7.2 million sq ft, and is strategically located in Sharjah near Al Rahmaniya area, easily accessible from the Sharjah International Airport and Sharjah University City. Upon completion, it will feature 1,120 eco-friendly and energy-efficient villas with a modern-meets-oriental design in harmony with the unique architectural aesthetic Sharjah is known for. During the official launch ceremony, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah learnt about the features of the residential units and other facilities through a 3D city model displayed at the event. He also received details about the eco-friendly technologies the city will be built on, and the key environmental and health benefits they will offer to the city’s future residents. The project will include a sustainable school, which will promote the concepts of sustainability through school curricula. It will also feature a ‘Sustainability Experience Centre’ – a platform to host meetings and forums by government and academic entities, NGOs, as well as school and university students, centered around promoting awareness about environmental issues and sustainable living. Sharjah Sustainability City is poised to be a landmark contribution by Sharjah to the global movement towards reducing carbon footprint, slowing global warming and decreasing the harsh impacts of climate change.

HE Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Amiri, Chairman of Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), said the authority’s participation in the 39th edition of Paris International Book Fair, is part of its mission to build bridges between civilizations, and introduce the French and European cultural institutions to Sharjah’s cultural landscape. He went on to add,  “The emirate’s cultural journey stems from the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who spares no effort to connect with various cultures, and introduce the rich Arabic and Islamic culture all around the world.” On the sidelines of the Paris Book Fair, SBA held several meetings at the Sharjah Pavilion and highlighted to French and European publishers and intellectuals, the strides that Sharjah has made  in its cultural journey. At the Sharjah pavilion, SBA showcased its first flagship initiative, Sharjah Publishing City (SPC), the world’s first publishing and printing free zone, highlighting the premium services and commercial advantages it offers to publishers, authors and other literary professionals from around the world. Established in December 2014, SBA is dedicated to encouraging investment in creative industries and offering a platform for knowledge and intellectual exchange between people from different civilisations and cultures. SBA aims to highlight the significant role of writers and their influence in promoting community awareness, especially after the advent of different technologies and multiple knowledge sources.

The property becomes the first five-star luxury hospitality brand in the UAE built on and inspired by rich Emirati heritage and culture. The official opening, which was led by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, was also under the presence of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman, Sharjah Media Council; Sheikh Salem Bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Director — Office, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah; Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Director, Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD), and a number of senior officials from Sharjah’s state entities, along with local and international journalists and influential personalities. Al Bait, which translates to ‘The Home’ is part of an Emirati conservation project in Sharjah spearheaded by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq). The hotel is the latest on GHM’s illustrious international list of hospitality properties, and features a collection of four heritage houses once owned by local families closely intertwined with Sharjah’s history. The five-star luxury resort is located in Heart of Sharjah – a major cultural heritage site in the UAE. Raising the bar and pioneering luxury hospitality in Sharjah, the resort is set to put the destination on the map. More than 500 business leaders and 30 industry experts, chief executives and decision-makers representing the region and the world, are expected to attend the fourth edition of Sharjah FDI Forum, to be held on December 10 and 11 in Sharjah. The event is set to witness discussions on corporate investment strategies, expansion opportunities, and explore the latest in solutions, innovations and best practices within the global economy. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah FDI Forum 2018 is organised by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and the Sharjah FDI Office (Invest in Sharjah), with the endorsement of the UAE Ministry of Economy and in strategic partnership with CNBC Arabia. The forum will be held under the theme, ‘Shaping the Future of Economies’ at the Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre in Sharjah. A press conference was recently organised to unveil the forum’s programme details. It was attended by HE Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO, Shurooq; Mohammed Juma Al Musharrkh, CEO, Invest in Sharjah, several representatives from government authorities, and media personnel. Al Musharrkh unveiled the forum’s comprehensive six-panel agenda, which will highlight the role of sustainable development in shaping the future of global economies. He also announced that for the first time, Sharjah FDI Forum will be hosting a special workshop on December 9, organised and conducted by the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), targeting a number of investment promotion agencies from around the world, to discuss latest practices of promoting investment opportunities by studying investor needs and embracing latest technological breakthroughs to identify in-demand sectors.

Sharjah international book fair has opened under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member, Supreme Council and Ruler, Sharjah. Guests were quite intrigued with an emotional message of heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to recognise the towering contributions of his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson, Supreme Council of Family Affairs (SCFA), and presented her the ‘Sharjah Coronet’ for dedicated services to society. Now in its 37th year, the fair has attracted visitors from across the globe and is considered as the second largest book fair in the world. This edition will be hosting more than 20 million books from 1.6 million titles, 80,000 of which are new titles, along with 1,874 publishing houses from 77 countries. The event will be curating 1800 events and featuring 472 guests from around the world with 200 book-signing ceremonies for authors from 19 countries. Japan is the Guest of Honour at this year’s edition in celebration of its cultural and creative achievements.
