Travelex launches Mobile Foreign Exchange Stores at Hamad International Airport

Travelex in partnership with Hamad International Airport (HIA) announce the launch of their latest store concept in Qatar, “Mobile Foreign Exchange Stores”. Located around HIA’s Concourse C and Concourse D, the Mobile Store concept provides airport customers with the benefits of a full-fledged foreign exchange branch packaged in a movable kiosk, allowing foreign exchange services to be further embedded within the customer’s journey. This is in addition to the Travelex foreign exchange kiosks conveniently located across the airport terminal, accessible to departing, arriving and transferring passengers. At the launch of the Mobile Stores, Travelex’s Commercial Director for the Middle East & Turkey, Mr. Batu Dölay, stated: “Launching Mobile Stores in Qatar is a key milestone in the partnership between Travelex and HIA. As the World’s Best Airport, we know HIA expects retailers to bring only the best for their customers and our Mobile Stores provide an elegant option for Travelex to ensure our services are consistently available to passengers regardless of their journey through the terminal.” Ms. Sujata Suri, VP Strategy & Commercial Development, HIA said: “As Hamad International Airport proudly caters to millions of its passengers from across the world, it is our responsibility to be perceptive and anticipate our passengers’ need for convenience and consistency in service. Malaysia Airlines’ inaugural Kuala Lumpur-Doha flight welcomed with a water cannon salute in Hamad International Airport (HIA)

Malaysia Airlines celebrated the arrival of its inaugural direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Doha via flight MH160 at Hamad International Airport (HIA) marking a milestone in the airline’s international expansion plan and efforts to enable optimal connections to the Middle East, United States, Europe, and Africa. Upon arrival at Hamad International Airport (HIA), the Official Airport Partner of the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and voted the World Best Airport 2021 by SKYTRAX World Airport Awards, the A330-300 aircraft was welcomed with a water cannon salute, while passengers were given welcoming gifts upon their disembarkation. The event was co-hosted by HIA and Qatar Airways, the airline’s codeshare partner. Malaysian Ambassador in Doha, H.E. Zamshari Shaharan; Malaysia Airlines’ Group Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, Lau Yin May; Hamad International Airport’s Senior Vice President of Operations, Ioannis Metsovitis and Senior Vice President Eastern Regions of Qatar Airways, Marwan Koleilat were present to greet the first 274 passengers who arrived at HIA at 11.50pm. Prior to the arrival, a sending-off event was organised in KL International Airport. Group Chief Operations Officer of MAB, Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi; together with senior officials from Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) distributed goodies to passengers departing on MH160 bound for Doha at 9:20pm local time. Lau Yin May of Malaysia Airlines commented, “Today marks another milestone for the national airline as we commence our new daily service from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Doha, Qatar. Qatar’s Hamad Airport to go smart with self-service for passengers

Hamad International Airport (HIA) is all set to become a smart airport. Every step of the on-boarding process at HIA, from check-in to boarding, will be self-service-enabled to significantly improve efficiency and reduce wastage of time, facilitating fast and seamless experience for the travellers. It will soon be introducing its next-generation self-service check-in and bag drop services, which will enable passengers to check in themselves, print their boarding passes and baggage tags, tag their bags and simply drop them off at the custom-designed bag-drop system. COO of Hamad International Airport, Badr Al–Meer, stated, “We want to be different and ensure that our passengers can self-check-in, drop the baggage and go right up to the aircraft without any human interaction. This would be phase 1 in reaching the Smart Airport standard. Phase 2 of our expansion plans includes a new terminal, the same size as that of the current airport.”

Hamad International Airport partners with Huawei

Huawei and Hamad International Airport (HIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalising a strategic partnership to enable the airport’s digital transformation. The objective is to accelerate digital transformation at Hamad International Airport and to share the solutions with the community for wider benefit of the air transport industry. The MoU between HIA and Huawei provides a broad framework for collaboration between for co-creation of innovative concepts, prototypes and solutions using cutting-edge technologies, particularly in the areas of IoT and autonomous machines, to address real business challenges and opportunities. Through this cooperation, HIA aims to improve the passenger experience, enhance security and communication, and increase operational efficiency. Commenting on the cooperation with Huawei, Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, Chief Operating Officer at HIA said: “Innovative technology will continue to drive digital transformation at Hamad International Airport. Through this strategic alliance with Huawei, which also provides access to its eco-system of niche partners, we aim to accelerate our journey and to demonstrate our commitment to the industry by sharing viable concepts and solutions that may be developed through this partnership”.
