The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) recently reviewed the existing laws and regulations concerning the registration of vehicles used for excursions in Dubai. The review was part of the DMCA’s move promoting maritime recreation and tourism in the emirate in line with the UAE’s economic diversification plan. It took place during the visit of H.E. Ahmed Issa Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, and his delegates to the DMCA office, where they were welcomed by Executive Director Amer Ali. During the meeting, both parties agreed to engage in the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and the best industry practices related to building a safe and integrated maritime environment in the hope of solidifying the UAE’s leadership in global maritime recreation and tourism. Ali reiterated the importance of constant communication between industry stakeholders in the UAE to maintain maritime safety, secure navigation, and operational efficiency. Ali also welcomed the visit of Sharjah delegation, saying it reflected their shared goal to implement effective mechanisms, laws, and regulations to manage the registration and licensing procedures for boats and Jet skis according to the highest local and global standards. On the other hand, H.E. Al Hosani maintained the significance of building a unified maritime system in the country amid the ongoing national digital transformation initiatives. During the visit, the DMCA showcased Dubai’s marine recreational facilities and ongoing efforts to integrate maritime activities for faster registration and licensing of sailing permits in cooperation with the public and private sectors. The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has joined the Middle East Yacht Conference 2018 to explore the future of luxury yachts alongside the requirements of the 21st century. The DMCA representatives, together with a group of decision makers, regional and international experts, and industry leaders, looked into key emerging trends and future prospects for the luxury yacht industry at the local and regional levels. Apart from highlighting trends over the past decade, the 12th edition gave the attendees a platform to discuss ways to enhance confidence in the Middle East’s luxury yacht industry through relevant marketing strategies. Hamed Hassan, Director – Registration and Licensing, DMCA, said, “The luxury yacht sector has proved to be a key contributor to Dubai’s achievements as one of the five most competitive and attractive maritime clusters in the world, thereby boosting the growth of the local maritime sector. The local maritime segment currently hosts more than 7,400 companies and at least 13,000 maritime and investment activities, contributing to the creation of over 76,000 jobs. Expectations are high that the sector’s share in the emirate’s gross domestic product (GDP) will reach 25 per cent over the next few years. Overall, the total value of the maritime sector in the UAE is expected to hit the USD 66-billion target by the end of 2018 and the value of the leisure boat industry will range between USD 1.3 billion and USD 1.5 billion. The UAE ranked ninth worldwide in the number of luxury yachts manufactured so far this year, solidifying further its leading position in the leisure maritime sector. To date, we have locally implemented 14 new luxury yacht projects with a combined length of 611 meters.”

The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has completed its preparations to provide an integrated portfolio of maritime licensing services at the upcoming Dubai International Boat Show 2018, to be held from February 27 to March 3, 2018 at the Dubai Water Canal in Jumeirah. The services will be showcased at the DMCA pavilion to help facilitate maritime licensing procedures for applicants looking to manage their maritime operations in accordance with the highest standards in safety, best environmental practices, and local and international regulations. The DMCA team will showcase maritime licensing services in accordance with innovative tools that ensure compliance with marine technical standards, maritime safety regulations and local environmental requirements, in line with Dubai’s efforts to improve performance, safety, efficiency and competitiveness of the maritime sector in the emirate. Applicants may facilitate the completion of their maritime driving license tests and complete the licensing procedures of marine vessels of all kinds efficiently. As part of the Dubai Maritime City Authority’s (DMCA) efforts to promote Dubai’s marine and leisure tourism, RASEINA Maritime Domestic & Leisure Working Group (one of DMCA initiatives) recently held a workshop for its members at the Address Dubai Marina hotel. The attendees discussed DMCA’s services to promote local marine and leisure tourism, including yacht registration, and also current and potential locations for marine entertainment activities. They also looked into the implementation of best practices to address the current and future challenges facing Dubai’s marine and leisure tourism sector. The Maritime Inspection Department of the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, continues to follow up with all owners of floating restaurants operating in the emirate to strictly adhere and comply with the DMCA’s safety and high quality operational requirements in light of the increasing maritime traffic in Dubai in order to ensure the enhancement of maritime safety and the efficiency of maritime navigation within Dubai waters. The initiative made by the DMCA’s Maritime Inspection Department, which is responsible for enforcing maritime safety regulations in Dubai, forms part of the Authority’s efforts ensuring that all floating restaurants in Dubai strictly conform with globally recognized standards and international best practices. It also aims to guarantee that all marine crafts observe the highest levels of maritime safety and high quality operational responsibility off Dubai waters at all times. The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) revealed the formation of RASEINA Maritime Domestic & Leisure Working Group, a first of its kind in the UAE, which aims to promote Dubai’s marine and leisure sector activities. The group has been created in a push to advance the Maritime Sector Strategy and further lead Dubai into becoming one of the world’s most important maritime centers. It forms part of DMCA’s efforts to implement strategic programmes and innovative projects highlighting the emirate’s maritime services and effectively promote marine and leisure sector in Dubai, given its leading role in the local maritime sector. The first meeting, which was organized by DMCA, saw the review of key topics covered in the Dubai Maritime Sector Strategy and identified the important goals to be achieved by the marine leisure sector as part of their continuing support to the emirate in becoming a pioneering global maritime hub.
