The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) recently reviewed the existing laws and regulations concerning the registration of vehicles used for excursions in Dubai. The review was part of the DMCA’s move promoting maritime recreation and tourism in the emirate in line with the UAE’s economic diversification plan. It took place during the visit of H.E. Ahmed Issa Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, and his delegates to the DMCA office, where they were welcomed by Executive Director Amer Ali. During the meeting, both parties agreed to engage in the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and the best industry practices related to building a safe and integrated maritime environment in the hope of solidifying the UAE’s leadership in global maritime recreation and tourism. Ali reiterated the importance of constant communication between industry stakeholders in the UAE to maintain maritime safety, secure navigation, and operational efficiency. Ali also welcomed the visit of Sharjah delegation, saying it reflected their shared goal to implement effective mechanisms, laws, and regulations to manage the registration and licensing procedures for boats and Jet skis according to the highest local and global standards. On the other hand, H.E. Al Hosani maintained the significance of building a unified maritime system in the country amid the ongoing national digital transformation initiatives. During the visit, the DMCA showcased Dubai’s marine recreational facilities and ongoing efforts to integrate maritime activities for faster registration and licensing of sailing permits in cooperation with the public and private sectors. Dubai has moved up in the ranking of the world’s top 10 maritime capitals in 2019, the latest in its string of achievements that has made the emirate a globally competitive maritime hub. The emirate took the 9th spot this year, up from its 10th rank in 2017, according to a recent report issued by Menon Economics and DNV GL, the global organization that specializes in benchmarking top maritime capitals of the world. The report surveyed 200 experts and high-profile officials from leading maritime companies worldwide. Around 40 per cent of the experts were from Europe, 30 per cent from Asia, and 30 per cent from the US, Middle East, and Africa. H.E. Sultan Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DP World; Chairman of Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation and Chairman of DMCA, said, “We are delighted to achieve this new global achievement that demonstrates the progress of the maritime sector in Dubai led with a leadership vision of H.H. The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has completed its preparations to provide an integrated portfolio of maritime licensing services at the upcoming Dubai International Boat Show 2018, to be held from February 27 to March 3, 2018 at the Dubai Water Canal in Jumeirah. The services will be showcased at the DMCA pavilion to help facilitate maritime licensing procedures for applicants looking to manage their maritime operations in accordance with the highest standards in safety, best environmental practices, and local and international regulations. The DMCA team will showcase maritime licensing services in accordance with innovative tools that ensure compliance with marine technical standards, maritime safety regulations and local environmental requirements, in line with Dubai’s efforts to improve performance, safety, efficiency and competitiveness of the maritime sector in the emirate. Applicants may facilitate the completion of their maritime driving license tests and complete the licensing procedures of marine vessels of all kinds efficiently.
