Middle East passenger numbers to reach 530 million by 2043 : IATA

At the opening session of the special media briefing Kamil Alawadhi – Regional VP – Africa and Middle East shared that the Middle East passenger numbers will double reaching 530 million in 2043 and the traffic will grow at an average annual rate of 3.9% over the 2023 – 2043 period. He reiterated that the Middle East annual growth of 0/1% higher than global growth (3.8%). In his presentation he went on to also explain about blocked funds, harmonized regulations and safety and flight operations. In terms of the blocked funds – $1.8billion in blocked finds globally down from $2.3 billion in April 2023. $1.1 billion in AME down from $1.9 billion in April 2023.

Emirates joins IATA’s Turbulence Aware Platform, becomes first airline to integrate flight data for real-time accuracy with Lido mPilot from Lufthansa Systems

Emirates has joined the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Turbulence Aware Platform. It will also be the first airline to integrate the IATA platform within the latest version of Lido mPilot, the mobile navigation solution from Lufthansa Systems. Bringing these platforms together offers a wealth of data, combined with new technologies that make up-to-the-minute, highly accurate turbulence information and forecasts available for pilots, equipping them with the means to plot the best paths around affected areas for enhanced safety, efficient navigation, and optimisation of flight plans. In conjunction with the IATA Turbulence Aware Platform, the airline has equipped more than 140 aircraft with the required onboard software to automatically share turbulence reports with all airlines contributing data to the platform. All new aircraft joining the Emirates fleet over the course of the next few years, such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777-9, 777-8 and B787, will be enabled to participate in the programme. Middle Eastern airlines saw a 14.2% year-on-year increase in demand : IATA

According to IATA’s latest April research data, Middle Eastern airlines saw a 14.2% year-on-year increase in demand with capacity increased 9.9% year-on-year and the load factor increased +3.0ppt to 79.3% compared to April 2023. Total demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs), was up 11.0% compared to April 2023. Total capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), was up 9.6% year-on-year. The April load factor was 82.4% (+1.0ppt compared to April 2023). International demand rose 15.8% compared to April 2023; capacity was up 14.8% year-on-year and the load factor improved to 82.2% (+0.7ppt on April 2023). Domestic demand rose 4.0% compared to April 2023; capacity was up 2.1% year-on-year and the load factor was 82.6% (+1.5ppt compared to April 2023). “Passenger demand has been growing for 36 consecutive months. As we enter the peak northern summer travel season, there is every reason to feel optimistic for a strong summer with airlines offering a wide range of travel options. 97% of passengers asked in our recent survey said they were satisfied with their last flight. Every part of the travel value chain needs to be focused on maintaining that,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General. Global aviation leaders assemble in Dubai for IATA’s 80th AGM

Global aviation leaders will gather in Dubai for the International Air Transport Association (IATA) 80th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit (June 2-4 2024). The event is being held in the UAE for the first time and hosted by Emirates Airline. Over 1,500 participants are expected to be in attendance, including industry leaders, government officials and media. H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy for the United Arab Emirates is expected to welcome delegates to Dubai with an opening keynote speech to the AGM. “Dubai’s world-leading connectivity places it at the crossroads of the planet. Emirates and International Cricket Council extend long-standing global partnership for a further eight years

Emirates and the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a multi-year extension to their global partnership. The long-standing partnership, already in its third decade, is set to become one of the most established in world sport and extends to 28 ICC men’s and women’s events until 2031, including the Cricket World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy. The announcement of Emirates as a Premier Partner comes ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 which will be hosted in the West Indies and the United States next month, an event at which the global airline will be highly visible and active.
