Sharjah tourism announces new tourism projects in the Emirate at WTM 2021

Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) hosted a media gathering on day two of its agenda of activities at the World Trade Market (WTM) 2021 exhibition, held on November 1-3 at ExCel London, where the Authority was promoting its tourism offering while exploring the new global tourism system as the pandemic subsides around the world. The SCTDA booth hosted a media gathering on day two of the exhibit to announce a series of new and future tourism projects to look forward to in the emirate. The Authority also announced that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed between Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Singapore’s The Lux Collective group, which specialises in managing luxury hotels and hospitality institutions. The MoU includes the management of two new tourist resorts in Al Dhaid and Khorfakkan cities in Sharjah.

Additional new and notable tourism projects were also highlighted, such as Sharjah Safari in Al Dhaid, the Moon Retreat in Mleiha, Al Suhub Rest House in Khorfakkan, Kalba Waterfront, family parks, and plans to develop the emirate’s beaches, including Al Heerah and Al Luluyah.

“Tourism is a key pillar of Sharjah’s economy and the national economy in general,” noted H.E. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, SCTDA Chairman. “It is a necessary requirement to drive sustainable development at every level. As the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic recedes, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority sought to strengthen its relations with the European market by actively taking part in the World Travel Market exhibition in London. WTM is an opportunity for us to highlight the great potential Sharjah’s tourism sector has, showcasing the emirate’s various tourist attractions, which are, once again, drawing tourists from around the world as travel restrictions are gradually rolled back and air traffic rebounds.”

“We are committed to the vision of our wise leadership, which calls for working towards advancing the emirate’s standing on the world tourism map,” H.E. Al Midfa added. “To that end, we have introduced a host of development projects in the tourism sector and continue to promote our attractions, picturesque environment, and diverse terrains that characterise the Emirate of Sharjah. These elements provide an entertaining and well-rounded experience for visitors in the emirate.”

“Our participation in this year’s edition of the World Travel Market exhibition offers an ideal platform for us and our partners from the government and private sectors to showcase the progress they have made in hospitality, tourism, and infrastructure projects, among other developments currently underway in the emirate,” H.E. continued.

H.E. Al Midfa went on to assert that WTM provided Sharjah with the opportunity to communicate with experts and decision makers in the European and international tourism markets. “We have a chance to restore confidence in the sector by highlighting the preventive measures and guidelines put in place to ensure visitors’ health and safety,” H.E. said. “We will also be highlighting the progress that has been made on tourism projects, designed to cater to all tastes with a diverse offering that includes eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and an extensive agenda of entertainment activities and major events.”

“We are optimistic about the period ahead as we witness the tremendous cultural and developmental advancements the emirate has made under the leadership of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah,” H.E. Khalid Al Midfa concluded.

For his part, Shurooq’s Executive Chairman H.E. Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, said: “This year’s WTM 2021 witnessed the announcement of our first and major hospitality partnership with Lux Collective, a luxury hospitality management company headquartered in Singapore, officially appointing them to manage two of our newest hospitality projects: LUX* Al Jabal Resort in Khorfakkan and LUX* Al Bridi Resort in Al Dhaid.”

“The partnership reflects our mission to introduce the global travel and tourism industry to Sharjah’s diverse and rich investment opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors, with access to more niche markets across Sharjah,” H.E. Al Sarkal added. “The new appointment has also debuted Lux Collective’s presence in the United Arab Emirates market, extending their expertise to deliver world-class hospitality concepts to the country and contribute to fulfilling our shared vision to deliver luxurious and authentic family, cultural, adventure, and eco-tourism experiences.”

Sharjah’s stand at the World Travel Market exhibition witnessed a great turnout from fairgoers, experts, participants, media, and individuals with a vested interest in tourism and travel, who came to explore developments taking place in the Sharjah tourism sector, as well as new and future projects in the pipeline. The stand is hosting a series of meetings with representatives of the tourism sector in the emirate from government and private entities, hotel, hospitality, and travel companies, on the one hand, and decision makers from the European tourism sector on the other.
