Doha to add 41 hotel projects, 11,000+ rooms


Doha has 41 projects and 11,722 rooms in its hotel construction pipeline, according to a new report. The Doha Hotel Construction Overview report by TOPHOTELPROJECTS prepared exclusively for The Hotel Show Dubai 2016, reveals that Doha is the 3rd busiest city in the Middle East and Africa for hotel construction, behind only Dubai (133 projects) and Riyadh (47 projects). Doha’s busiest year for hotel openings is forecast to be 2017 with 14 new properties entering the market, including: Pullman Doha West Bay (468 rooms), JW Marriott West Bay (297 rooms), Hilton Garden Inn Doha Al Sadd (225 rooms), and Millennium Plaza Doha (232 rooms). The five-star Millennium Plaza Doha will open as part of the new Barwa Al Sadd development located in the heart of Doha. Comprised of four high rise towers offering commercial, residential and office space, the major project, currently under construction, will also offer a range of restaurants, shops and recreational facilities. Kassab added: “Barwa Al Sadd is set to be an exciting new addition to the city for both visitors and residents. Hotel Show 2016 at WTC Dubai


The much awaited Hotel Show will be held from September 17-19, 2016 at Dubai World Trade Center. With a surge in technological innovations designed specifically for the hospitality industry, The Hotel Show Dubai 2016 is set to debut a dedicated new feature when it opens this week. Combined, the Technology and Security Pavilion now takes up almost a quarter (22%) of the event’s 17th edition. New hospitality projects by Deyaar and Millennium & Copthorne


It is reported that Deyaar Development has signed a deal with hotel operator Millennium & Copthorne to operate three hospitality developments in Dubai spanning 953 units. The Dubai-based developer said in a statement that the move is part of its ongoing drive to support Dubai’s tourism and hospitality infrastructure needs. The strategic alliance with Millennium & Copthorne spans three of Deyaar’s current developments – a hotel and serviced apartments development in Al Barsha next to Mall of the Emirates, luxury residences at The Atria in Business Bay and premium serviced apartments at Montrose in Dubai Science Park. All three developments are scheduled for completion from late 2017 to early 2018, Deyaar said. Millennium & Copthorne will manage and operate the developments’ hotel and serviced apartments, as well as provide consultancy services during the construction phase of the projects. Deyaar’s CEO Saeed Al Qatami said: “The new developments will provide convenient overnight, short-term and long-term hospitality options for business and leisure travellers to Dubai. We have chosen our locations based on convenient access to the major business and transport nodes, including malls, metro stations and offices.” Ali Hamad Lakhraim Alzaabi, president and CEO, Millennium & Copthorne MEA, added: “We are delighted to partner with Deyaar, a company of excellence in the real estate sector, to bring these exciting developments to the market. Marriott boosts ME presence with 14 new properties in 2016


Marriott International, Inc. has continued to pursue an ambitious growth strategy across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region announcing an impressive 14 new property signings so far in 2016. The signings will add to Marriott International’s current operating portfolio of 147 hotels in 20 countries across the Middle East and Africa, with the company also confirmed to open 11 new properties across the region by the end of this year. The latest collection of signings will see Marriott International expand its Middle East footprint by eight properties across the UAE, Egypt, Qatar and Kuwait, encompassing the Marriott Hotels, Courtyard by Marriott, Marriott Executive Apartments, Residence Inn by Marriott and Protea Hotels by Marriott brands. The company has also announced further growth to its African pipeline with the signing of six new properties under the JW Marriott Hotels, Autograph Collection and Protea Hotels by Marriott brands. Within the Middle East, Marriott International currently operates a total of 40 properties spanning eight brands. Today’s announcement will add a further five properties to Marriott International’s UAE presence as well as one property each in Egypt, Qatar and Kuwait. In Africa, Marriott International’s acquisition of Protea Hospitality Holding in 2014 is continuing to yield positive returns as the company signs a further six hotels in 2016 adding 1,040 rooms to its Africa pipeline. Dubai Parks and Resorts daily ticket priced at AED240-AED330

As the excitement begins, Dubai Parks and Resorts announced the daily ticket prices for the theme park destination which will open on October 31 this year. Pre-purchased standard adult tickets will range from AED 240 to AED 330 for a one-day single park ticket, and will range from AED 480 to AED 890 for a multiple parks multiple days’ ticket. This unique destination is comprised of three theme parks – Bollywood Parks Dubai, MOTIONGATE Dubai, and LEGOLAND Dubai, together with the LEGOLAND Water Park. Guests will have access to nearly 100 exciting rides, attractions and shows on opening day at the destination located on Sheikh Zayed Road opposite the Palm Jebel Ali in Dubai.The gateway to the destination is Riverland Dubai, offering over 50 themed retail, dining, and entertainment experiences set across a waterfront district which is free for all to enjoy. The destination also hosts the Lapita Hotel, a Polynesian themed family hotel. Online ticket sales will go live shortly. International Swiss hospitality company Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts (MH&R) has appointed Olivier Chavy, as new CEO. Chavy will take over the leadership from Jean-Gabriel Pérès in September 2016. Chavy is a veteran of the hospitality industry with a 28-year track record in hotel operations and brand management. He served as International Head, Global Brand Performance of Luxury & Lifestyle Brands for Hilton Worldwide. His experience in brand building and development in the hospitality industry has led him to his current role as President and Chief Executive Officer of Wilson Associates, the leading global interior architectural design firm.
