Saudi tourism launches initiative to enhance tourism education and training

Her Highness Princess Haifa Mohammed Al Saud, Vice Minister of Tourism, has initiated the largest programmatic and institutional accreditation initiative. This effort is designed to enhance the quality of tourism education and training, aiming to improve the efficiency of education and training outcomes in the Kingdom’s tourism sector and better connect them to the labor market. HH emphasized that since its inception, the Ministry has been dedicated to enhancing the educational and training programs and aligning their outcomes with the needs of the current and future labor market. She noted that the launch of this substantial initiative marks a critical step towards ensuring the success of these efforts. HH also detailed that this initiative, the largest worldwide, involves assessing the quality of 102 national tourism education and training programs throughout 2024. This assessment will be conducted in partnership with 3 organizations to measure the quality of tourism programs: UN Tourism, the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, and the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation. The goal of the initiative is to enable tourism education and training institutions supported by the Ministry of Tourism to earn both international and local accreditations and professional certificates. The initiative aims to accomplish various short- and long-term objectives. These include 31 tourism education and training programs and institutions receiving national and international accreditation by 2024, 200 trainers and educational and administrative staff earning professional certificates to deliver new tourism programs developed by the Ministry in collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism Organization for the year 2024, and 37 Ministry of Tourism employees obtaining professional certification to manage tourism programs. Accor and Ministry of Tourism join to empower 256 Saudi talents through “Tamayyaz by Accor”

The Ministry of Tourism in Saudi Arabia has signed a strategic partnership with Accor to nurture and develop Saudi talent within the hospitality industry. Through the “Tamayyaz by Accor” program, the collaboration seeks to offer fresh graduates and talented individuals a clear path for career advancement, expedite nationalization by identifying essential roles in each department, cultivate internal talent, implement onboarding programs, and design career growth plans. Upon completing the 6-month program, 256 trainees will be employed in their preferred departments within the hotels. To mark this partnership, the Ministry was represented during the signing ceremony by the Deputy Minister of Tourism for Human Capital Development, Engineer Mohammed Muin Bushnag, while Accor was represented by Jean-Jacques Morin the Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Premium, Midscale and Economy division, in the presence of several officials. DCT Abu Dhabi opens registrations for Tourism Youth Summer Camp 2022

The 2022 edition of the Tourism Youth Summer Camp, an initiative led by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), is now open for registration. Designed to empower Emirati youth and to encourage their participation in the tourism sector, the two-week immersive programme offers both formal training and work experience, including a five-day placement at one of Abu Dhabi’s leading hotels. Running from 25 July to 5 August 2022, the programme offers 50 participants the opportunity to refine their teamwork and leadership skills and to develop an understanding of the broad components that make up the hospitality and tourism industries through access to workshops, tutorials, field trips and expert speakers. Viewing the destination with visitor experience in mind, the participants will learn about the attributes of Abu Dhabi as a leading tourism and cultural destination and the role and responsibility of DCT Abu Dhabi in achieving the emirate’s strategic ambitions. This Emiratisation initiative by DCT Abu Dhabi aims to educate participants on the role tourism and hospitality play in the growth and transformation of the emirate’s economy. The placement will offer participants the opportunity to gain hands-on, tourist-facing experience and improve their competence and explore potential career paths in tourism. The programme is exclusively open to UAE nationals aged between 17 and 21 years of age with no fee involved.
