Jazeera Airways announced that the airline’s current Chief Executive Officer, Rohit Ramachandran, will be stepping down after over seven successful years with the organization. Barathan Pasupathi (Bara), a former CFO of Jazeera Airways, has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Jazeera Airways effective 26 March 2024. Bara comes with over 30 years of experience in aviation, oil and gas, and supply chain management. His aviation industry experience spans key finance, management, and operations functions for airlines as well as aircraft procurement and leasing. Speaking about this management change, Marwan Boodai, Jazeera Airways Chairman said, “Rohit has been a strong, visionary and passionate leader, and a true champion of our brand and our people. He has led Jazeera in its enormous chapter of growth and delivered solid and robust results with a deep commitment to operational excellence while building shareholder value, which is deeply respected by industry peers. During his tenure and by forging strong strategic relationships with key stakeholders, supported by the strength of our outstanding Jazeera teams, Jazeera tripled its fleet. Under his leadership, the airline expanded into 65 destinations, hit record passenger volumes, achieved unsurpassed results, and initiated a purpose built, profitable Jazeera Terminal 5. Jazeera Airways announced the signing of a new facilities management contract with Kuwait-based Intelligent Management Solutions (IMS). Under the terms of the contract, IMS will utilize its Computerized Aided Facilities Management System (CAFM IMS) to digitize operations systems and maintenance at Jazeera Terminal 5 (T5) and other facilities. This contract is a part Jazeera Airways’ commitment to support local businesses. Speaking about the contract, Naser Al Obaid, Chief Executive Officer, Jazeera Terminal 5, highlighted: “We are pleased to partner with Intelligent Management Solutions and benefit from their comprehensive digital operations and maintenance system to manage our facilities. It is also a matter of pride to be working with a Kuwaiti startup that has seen many successes in providing its services to local and regional companies.” Jazeera Terminal 5 (T5), fully owned and operated by Jazeera Airways aims to make the passenger journey faster and smoother. The recently upgraded terminal includes 24 check-in desks, five boarding gates, transit areas, food, and beverage options, Duty Free and retail outlets as well as service provider desks for the convenience of all passengers. A 350-vehicle parking building across the road is connected to the Terminal by a walking bridge making it easier to cross over or transfer luggage, especially during the summer months. With just one security check to be cleared for departures, passengers can relax till it’s time to board their flight. IMS is a startup company founded by Kuwaiti entrepreneur Faleh Alajmi. Jazeera Airways inaugurated its new sales office in Riyadh recently. Operating in KSA since 2007, the airline currently flies to six destinations including Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Hail, and Taif. With 105 flights a week, Jazeera Airways serves 4000 passengers covering leisure and family visitors, religious pilgrims, and expatriate workers. Jazeera Airways introduced sustainable food service ware on all flights across its network of 64 destinations. By changing from plastic cutlery to 100% biodegradable spoons, forks, knives and napkins, Jazeera reduces 300 kilograms of plastic on its flights each month. The cutlery manufactured by Dubai based Palmade® is made from natural materials including leaves of the date palm trees. All of these materials are certified biodegradable and compostable. Earlier in the year, Jazeera also switched from plastic stirrers to wooden ones as a part of its sustainable practices. The airline is the first low cost carrier in the Middle East to switch from plastic to eco-friendly food service ware in-flight. Rohit Ramachandran, Chief Executive Officer, Jazeera Airways said “As a low cost carrier, we have to be cost conscious in our business, but we are also mindful of our ethical, social and environmental accountability. In the last few years, we have taken small steps towards sustainability and continue to stay focused on reducing or offsetting our carbon emissions. Changing to biodegradable service ware is another small initiative that we are hoping will contribute to a larger impact. Our ultimate goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.” In 2021, Jazeera Airways placed an order for 28 new A320neo and A321neo aircraft, an investment in the excess of US$3.4 billion. The A320neo aircraft provide an 18% reduction in fuel burn and CO2 emissions, and cut NOx emissions and noise pollution by 50% each. Jazeera Airways joined the Egypt Civil Aviation Authority announce the launch of direct flights from Kuwait International Airport to Sphinx International Airport. Jazeera is flying from Kuwait to Sphinx and back four times a week. The Sphinx airport which serves the city of Giza, is located close to the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza. Other tourist destinations, including the upcoming Grand Egyptian Museum and world class shopping centers will also be easily accessible from the airport. This helps put Giza on the map not only as a historic city, but also a shopping destination. The airport is an hour away from downtown Cairo and close to the Greater Cairo districts of 6 October and Sheikh Zayed, as well as the governorates of Fayoum and Beni Suef. Jazeera Airways is gearing up for the 2023 summer season by restarting its flights to Prague, Czech Republic and Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Jazeera Airways announced the launch of direct flights to a third destination in Uzbekistan: Samarkand. The airline will operate twice a week, connecting travelers from Kuwait to this historic city, while offering a convenient route for Uzbek travelers to the Middle East region and beyond. In 2021, Jazeera Airways was the first to connect Kuwait to Uzbekistan with direct flights to the capital city of Tashkent, twice a week. Last year, Jazeera also started flying to the third largest city in the country, Namangan. Moscow Domodedovo Airport’s (DME) welcomed Jazeera Airways’ inaugural flight from Kuwait International Airport. Jazeera Airways, Kuwait’s leading low cost airline began operating this new route to offer passengers from Moscow connectivity to the Middle East region and beyond. Andrey Pavlov, Director of Domodedovo Airport said: “It is a great honor for us to receive a new carrier that will operate a unique route for the Moscow air hub, connecting the capitals of the two countries — Moscow and Kuwait City.
