GALF 2019 to focus on blockchain, AI and remote ATC towers

The 7th edition of the Global Airport Leaders’ Forum (GALF) is set to take place in Dubai this year. One of the world’s most influential knowledge-sharing platforms for the airports industry, agenda for GALF 2019 taking place from April 29 to May 1 alongside the 19th edition of Airport Show reflects the changing aviation landscape and future technologies. Airport Show and its co-located events will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority; Chairman, Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group. The knowledge-enhancement initiative is themed ‘Leading Collaborative Sustainable Aviation Growth’, reflecting the future growth path of the industry which supports US$2.7 trillion of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and carries over four billion passengers and 62 million tonnes of freight a year. At GALF, industry leaders and experts from around the world will gather to discuss common challenges, partnership opportunities and chart the way forward for the region’s aviation growth. The three-day event will feature pressing topics including smart airports and sustainability, airport privatisation models,  building non- aeronautical revenue systems and the future of blockchain in aviation, amongst other topics. Dubai has ambitious plans to be the world’s first city fully powered by blockchain by 2020 and the emirate is making persistent efforts to be a global leader in blockchain adoption. Dubai gears up for GIAS 2019

The first edition of the Global Investment in Aviation Summit (GIAS 2019) will kick off in Dubai with the participation of aviation ministers and heads of civil aviation authorities from around the world on January 28 & 29, 2019. Eminent personalities marking their presence at the two-day aviation event include HE Eng Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy and Board Chairman, General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA); Sheikh Salman Al Sabah, Chairman, Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and Eng Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunication; Abdul Hakim bin Mohammed Suleiman Al Tamimi, Chairman, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation; Dr Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, President, International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO); Hadi Sirica, Aviation Minister, Nigeria; Blade Nzimande, Minister of Transport, South Africa; Volodymyr Omelyan, Minister of Infrastructure, Ukraine; Monica Azuba Ntege, Minister of Works and Transport, Uganda; Captain Sameh El Hefny, President, Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority and Ricardo Fenelon Junior, Director General, National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil, and other decision makers. Global Investment in Aviation Summit 2019 to be held from January 27-29

Global Investment in Aviation Summit 2019 is all set to take place from January 27-29, 2018 at the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City with brainstorming on challenges and investment in aviation being the core objectives. The required modernisation of aviation infrastructure expansion, development, and modernisation to cater to anticipated increase in passenger and freight air traffic demand will reach USD 1.8 trillion by 2030. GIAS 2019 is an initiative of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), which was established to create a leading, safe, secure and sustainable civil aviation system in the country. According to a report published by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), global aviation will have to cater to over 14 trillion passenger traffic and 466 billion tonnes of freight traffic by 2034. This projection will show an increase of 14.5 per cent RPK and 4.2 per cent FTK, per annum respectively. The projected growth in global aviation industry will generate at least 99 million jobs and will contribute USD 5.9 trillion in GDP, a 122 per cent increase from 2014, according to the same IATA report. The UAE is investing substantially in upgrading the aviation infrastructure. HE Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General, UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, said, “Aviation has been an important part of the UAE’s economic growth. One of the nation’s vigorous strength is its rapidly-expanding infrastructure, with spending of USD23.16 billion, including USD8 billion for expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, USD7.6 billion for Phase IV development of Dubai International Airport, and USD 6.8 billion for expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport.
