Today we have a 50,000-seat capacity direct from Guangzhou, we are also expecting to operate from Beijing in August – another direct route – and SAUDIA has signed a digital transformation agreement with Accenture. Accenture is expecting to offer an additional 32 digital services on their system and today we have 26 agreements in place with online Chinese travel agencies. However, when you reach the destination, you want authenticity. That’s why we say digitize the expected and humanize the unexpected. The Qatar Tourism China Roadshow 2023 was successfully held across four major cities in China including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing. During the travel-trade roadshow, Qatar Tourism introduced Qatar’s rich cultural heritage, modern infrastructures, as well as the country’s tourism and hospitality offerings to over 200 industry professionals including online travel agencies (OTAs), local tour operators and trade media. In partnership with Qatar Airways, Qatar Tourism led a strong delegation at the roadshow that included WeChat Pay, Alipay, five Doha hotels, three destination management companies (DMCs) and three official associations in Qatar. The strong delegation helped to position Qatar as an appealing destination for the contemporary Chinese consumer and showcased both diversified and high-quality tourism products. China represents an important source market with many of its travellers looking for a destination that caters to a luxury city break. Last year, Qatar Tourism’s China Representative Office hosted 31 seminars and trainings for travel trade stakeholders, supporting 524 participants to obtain their Qatar specialist certificate, and made hundreds of sales calls across the mainland. Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) has successfully concluded its first roadshow in China with 13 partners including DMCs, hoteliers and airline partners in attendance. A series of events, meetings, round table discussions and networking events were hosted, resulting in over twenty strategic partnership announcements. During the multicity roadshow, Saudi Tourism Authority held meetings with over 300 trade partners and travel buyers in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to promote Saudi as a leisure destination, sharing insights into the emerging trends in MICE tourism. China is an important source market to the UAE, already the travel between UAE and China has been on the rise especially business travel. At a recent interview with Marcus Lee Chief Executive Officer China Travel Online shared, “I think UAE has a very clear advantage, one of the ten factors that Chinese look into number one is covid safety and vaccination rate. I believe the UAE tops the rank and this could be one of the first destinations that Chinese will prefer to travel.” At the press conference held on 27th December 2022 by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin it was revealed that, “following the latest decision to manage COVID-19 with measures against Class-B infectious diseases, relevant departments under the State Council joint prevention and control mechanism have, after full assessment, formulated provisional measures on cross-border travel. I will now briefly go over these measures.” Addressing international media Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin stated, “First, inbound travelers will need to show a negative nucleic acid test taken within 48 hours prior to departure. The test result will need to be noted in the customs health declaration form. Inbound travelers no longer need to apply for a health code from Chinese embassies or consulates. Those who test positive need to postpone their travel until they have a negative test result. Second, nucleic acid tests will no longer be conducted on inbound travelers upon arrival. Citizens and expatriate residents of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia can apply for Schengen visas to Belgium at the new Visa Application Centres jointly launched by the Embassy of Belgium in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and VFS Global. The new centres provide outbound travellers from Al Khobar and Jeddah a very convenient visa application platform, ensuring enhanced quality of services and seamless procedures. Applicants also complete their biometric enrolment at the same application centre. With the launch of these new centres, applicants no longer need to visit the Embassy of Belgium and instead need to submit their visa applications at the VFS Global centres in Al Khobar and Jeddah. During the official inauguration of the Visa Application Centre in Al Khobar, H E Dominique Mineur, Ambassador of Belgium to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, said, “The recent opening in Jeddah last month has already resulted in an increase in the number of visa applications received for Belgium from the Kingdom. We hope the Al Khobar Centre will also generate the same interest, and we thank VFS Global for their support. Dubai remains on track to becoming the most visited city for global travel, business and events, according to the latest visitation figures released by Dubai’s Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism). The emirate welcomed 11.58 million visitors in the first three quarters of 2018, with India retaining its position as Dubai’s leading source market, followed by Saudi Arabia and the UK continuing to hold second and third positions respectively, underlining the city’s sustained appeal to its traditional strongholds and a wider diversified global audience. Russia, China and Germany continued to be key drivers within the top performing markets, each recording double-digit growth compared to the same period in 2017. Tourism from Russia remained on high trajectory, growing by a massive 60 per cent year-on-year, with visitor numbers surging to 460,000 in just the first nine months of 2018. The increase in Russian overnight guests was supported by a strong 19 per cent growth in air capacity across non-stop flights, in addition to added ease of travel access following the introduction of visa-on-arrival facilities in the last two years. China also continued to highlight benefits from the visa-on-arrival scheme, complementing the ongoing ‘China Readiness’ strategy, consequently re-enforcing its upward curve resulting in China securing its position as the fourth largest feeder market with an impressive 641,000 visitors so far this year, marking a 12 per cent increase versus 573,000 for the same period last year. Germany grew even faster at 15 per cent to reach 388,000 visitors during the first nine months, landing in eighth place within the top 10 source markets for Dubai.
