DCT Abu Dhabi signs MoU with Air France-KLM to expand connectivity between Europe and Abu Dhabi

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Franco-Dutch airline Group Air France-KLM, forging a strategic partnership that will enhance connectivity between Abu Dhabi and Europe further positioning the emirate as a preferred tourist destination. The signing ceremony, held at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, was attended by HE Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General of Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi; Angus Clarke, Chief Commercial Officer of Air France-KLM; Olivier Piette, Senior Vice President – Network of Air France; and Maureen Bannerman, Chief Commercial Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports. The partnership expands Abu Dhabi’s global connectivity through daily flights to Paris, whose flagship carrier Air France is a Skytrax Top 10 airline. Furthermore, the MoU reinforces Abu Dhabi’s goal to attract more than 24 million visitors by the end of 2023 and its commitment to build on its destination awareness. Dubai’s attractions, parks and other facilities witness a record-breaking 15m Visitors in H1 2023

Tourist attractions, Dubai Municipality’s public parks, neighborhood parks, lakes and recreational facilities registered for the first time a record-breaking total of more than 15 million visitors during the first half of 2023. This marks a 50 per cent increase in the same period of 2022, which recorded approximately 10 million visitors. Visitors to parks and facilities in Dubai during the first half of 2023 were distributed as follows: 10 million to lakes and neighborhood parks, and around three million to the five largest parks (over 951,000 visitors at Al Mamzar Beach Park; 701,000 visitors at Mushrif Park; over 658,000 visitors at Creek Park; 430,000 visitors at Zabeel Park, and over 153,000 visitors at Safa Park). Additionally, over 884,000 people visited Dubai Frame; over 710,000 people visited The Quranic Park, approximately 427,000 people visited Dubai Safari Park, and up to 73,000 people visited Children’s City. The increased number of visitors to these facilities and parks can be attributed to their exceptional locations and ease of access via various ways of transportation. Furthermore, the periodically organized events and initiatives totaled more than 200 out of which 151 were by the private sector, 43 societal initiatives, and 19 recreational initiatives by the Municipality. These initiatives aimed to provide new and diverse recreational spaces and choices to cater to all segments of society in Dubai and enhance their well-being, happiness, and quality of life. Oman Air Chairman announces major transformation plan within the next 3-4 years

Oman Air  aims to address ongoing losses and the accumulation of debt, and includes four main pillars:  financial sustainability, corporate governance, commercial aspects, and human capital over the next 3-4 years with the new transformation plan. In the interest of financial sustainability and operational continuity, His Excellency Eng. Saeed Al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Chairman of Oman Air, announced a comprehensive programme to restructure the airline.  The programme is based on the recommendations of international management consulting firm, Oliver Wyman, who conducted a thorough assessment of the airline’s financial and commercial performance and presented practical measures to achieve sustainable commercial operations. In addition, Oman Air will restructure with the aim of improving its basic operational performance and enabling it to better meet the needs of the market. His Excellency indicated that the procedures for Oman Air’s radical and sustainable transformation require the use of qualified experts. In this regard, changes will be made in the current Board of Directors and Executive Management team during the coming months, ensuring the onboarding of highly qualified experts, whether local or international. On corporate governance, His Excellency said that specialised committees have been formed to reformulate governance concerned with human, financial and commercial resources, affiliated to the Board of Directors. Meanwhile, the airline’s network is being re-evaluated by international experts, and decisions will be taken on whether to continue certain destinations. UAE reduces overstay visa fines to tourists and residents

As the UAE government is currently streamlining visa regulations by unifying fines for overstaying their visas. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security has standardized the fine on visa overstay. Residents, tourists and visit visa holders who overstay will now pay AED 50 per day instead of the previous AED 100. The new policy ensures compliance with visa rules and encourages timely renewal. Officials request expatriates and tourists to visit the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship websites and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai to facilitate a smoother visa process.

Passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport during first half of 2023, increases by 67% year-on-year

Abu Dhabi International Airport announced the airport’s traffic results for the first half of 2023 which show healthy figures and outstanding growth in passenger numbers, flights and cargo movement. The figures confirm a significant increase of 67% in passenger traffic as 10,258,653 passengers passed through Abu Dhabi international Airport between 1 January and 30 June 2023, compared to 6,158,376 passengers served during the same period last year. Abu Dhabi International Airport also recorded 67,835 flights, a notable increase of 36% compared to 49,919 flights during H1 2022. Abu Dhabi International Airport’s network continues to expand rapidly with 114 destinations served by 27 airlines during H1 2023. The destinations with the highest passenger traffic served by Abu Dhabi International Airport during the period included Mumbai (461,081), London (374,017), Delhi (331,722), Kochi (316,460) and Doha (261,117).
