RTA revamps 4 traditional abra stations along Dubai Creek

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the completion of the revamping of four traditional abras stations along Dubai Creek. The project aimed to enhance the experience of abra riders, and step-up security & safety at marine transport stations used by 14 million riders annually. The project also aimed to fulfil the requirements of the Dubai Universal Design Code for People of Determination and increase the capacity of Bur Dubai Station by 33%. “The launch of this project is part of RTA’s master plan for overhauling marine transport systems in Dubai, which is recognised as a primary mobility mode, and enriching the marine transport network in the emirate. The plan envisages the development of four key stations: Bur Dubai Model Station, Deira Old Souq Station, Dubai Old Souq Station, and Sabkha Station,” explained Al Tayer. “Marine transport has seen consistent growth in terms of the transportation modes, stations, and riders since the inauguration of the Dubai Water Canal linking the Dubai Creek to the coastal area,. The sector is poised to see further improvement with the completion of the urban and touristic amenities on the shores of the canal as well as the construction of marine stations. DEWA and RTA collaborate to enhance the shift towards a green economy

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) signed a sponsorship agreement with the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai (RTA). According to the agreement, RTA will be the Platinum Sponsor of the World Green Economy Summit (WGES), which is organised by the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), DEWA, and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, for three sessions from 2023 to 2025. This supports the shared vision of DEWA and RTA to support the transition to a green economy and consolidate Dubai’s position as a global platform for sustainability. RTA launches Travel Behaviour Survey

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched a Travel Behaviour Survey – Screening Questionnaire of individuals and families residing or working in Dubai, as well as companies based in the Emirate. This step is part of RTA’s efforts to revamp its strategic roads and transport plans, enhance roads and public transport networks and services to provide a smooth and safe transportation experience for the public and keep up with the urbanisation of the Emirate in line with the Dubai Urban Plan 2040. The survey, which runs from January to June 2023, covers more than 7,000 samples of the population of Dubai and the neighbouring emirates. It covers 5,000 families (citizens and residents), 1,500 individuals visiting or working in Dubai, and 500 cargo transport companies operating in Dubai. “Over the next few days, RTA would launch a survey to measure the mobility trends and behaviours of residents and visitors of Dubai. Communication channels with the public would include home questionnaires, field visits, personal interviews, and online interviews including smart apps. The process involves the use of artificial intelligence technologies to reach the largest possible number of individuals,” said Muna Al Osaimi, Director of Transportation Strategic Planning, Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, RTA. “The results of the survey will be collected, analysed, and studied in a professional and transparent manner to conclude the best findings. Tourists to Global Village can ride electric abras deployed by RTA

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will begin operating electric abra tourist services for visitors to Global Village on Tuesday, 25 October, in conjunction with the start of the Village’s 27th season (2022 – 2023). “RTA is always keen on running the electric abra service with the start of the Global Village season every year, especially as abras had proved extremely popular among visitors. By offering riders an opportunity to board a transit means powered by renewable energy, we intend to generate a positive experience that will contribute to the growth of tourist numbers in the Global Village. The positive response is evident from the huge footfall of residents & visitors,” commented Mohammed Abu Bakr Al Hashemi, Director of Marine Transport, Public Transport Agency, RTA. “We approved a plan to operate two electric abras to serve guests of the Global Village this season. RTA educates Abra drivers on best practices of marine transport

Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) held a workshop to educate drivers of Abras operating at Sabkha and Baniyas marine stations about the precautionary measures against the Covid-19 and the best marine transport practices in this regard. Drivers were also briefed on offences to which violators are liable. “This field workshop had taken place at Sabkha and Baniyas marine stations which benefitted about 35 Abra drivers by giving them a practical demonstration of the intended practices. The workshop stressed the importance of taking preventive measures against the coronavirus for the safety of both drivers and riders,” said Saeed Al Balushi, Director of Passengers Transport Activities Monitoring, Public Transport Agency, RTA. “Abra drivers had been briefed on violations such as the use of an expired driving permit, disregard to Abra queuing at the station’s platform, reckless driving, lack of cleaning and maintenance of the interior and body of Abra, disregard to the maximum number of riders, collection of excess fare, overnight staying onboard  the Abra, failure to wear the uniform, poor personal hygiene,  and failure to comply with the safety and security measures in place,” added Al Balushi. “The importance of this workshop is highlighted by the increased public use of Abras during these cooler days tempting more riders, especially tourists and residents, to entertain the pleasures of riding traditional Abras. RTA to host World Congress in 2024

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will be the host of the World Congress of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS World Congress) 2024, which marks the first time this signature event is held in the region since launched in 1994. RTA was privileged by hosting the event following its nomination by ITS Europe, an organisation to which RTA has recently been affiliated. The Congress is supported by three prominent entities of the industry, namely ITS Europe, ITS America, and ITS Asia-Pacific. New Deira Islands receive 5 bridges to enhance domestic tourism

RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) together with Nakheel has completed the first phase of five bridges leading to Deira islands. Deira Island Project is developed by Nakheel which is Dubai’s new waterfront. It consists of four man-made islands reclaimed from the Arabian Gulf along the coast of Deira spanning 17 million square metres; rendering it the largest development project in Deira. The project comprises the construction of hundreds of hotels, furnished flats, mixed-use buildings and marinas. It is expected to attract about 250,000 residents. “The newly constructed bridges and roads provide access points to and from Deira Islands at the intersection of Al Khaleej-Abu Baker Al Siddique Streets. The bridges span 2,571 metres in length and have a total capacity of 20,700 vehicles per hour,” said His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority. “The project will raise the capacity of Al Khaleej St. along 1.8km stretch, and provide better traffic safety and services from the intersection of Abu Hail Northwards to Al Baraha Hospital Southwards. Such improvements are attributed to the addition of two signalised junctions at the intersections with Abu Hail and Abu Baker Al Siddique Streets in place of the existing R/As. RTA signs agreement with BeemCar to develop sky pods in Dubai

Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has signed an agreement with BeemCar, touted as one of the largest developers of sky pods in the world, to develop sky pods in Dubai, in a move to step up the development of futuristic mobility solutions in the emirate through suspended transport technology. Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of Rail Agency, signed for RTA; and Robin Brownsell, CEO of BeemCar, signed on behalf of the company. “The signing of the agreement is part of RTA’s efforts to deploy autonomous transit means in line with the Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy aimed at diverting 25% of total mobility journeys in Dubai to autonomous transit means by 2030. The move corresponds to RTA’s efforts to enhance the integration of mass transit modes, and offer a solution to the first and last-mile challenge; which helps riders reach their final destinations,” said His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. “I am very pleased to attend the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority and BeemCar UK. RTA launches first electric service in Dubai Creek

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the first electric service in Dubai Creek, which starts from Al Seef, Baniyas and Festival City as part of its efforts to expand the maritime transport network and enhance the tourism sector in Dubai. RTA partners with Emaar to promote ferry service for tourists

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed an agreement with ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa’, developed by Emaar Properties which aims to support RTA’s Ferry service through promoting the sale of Dubai Ferry tickets amongst Dubai visitors, residents and tourist groups received by Emaar. Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of Public Transport Agency, signed the agreement on behalf of RTA and Ahmed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Group Operations, signed on behalf of Emaar, in the presence of officials from both parties. “The agreement is the first phase of an ongoing scheme between RTA and ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa’ to improve the marine transit network and enhance the experience of customers using water transport. According to the agreement, ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa’ will promote the Ferry service amongst visitors and residents of Dubai as well as the tourist groups. The promotional campaign will highlight the mesmerizing features of the Ferry along with the cruise services provided, besides supporting ticket sale at the ticket booths within Ferry stations. RTA has six Ferry boats in operation and three others as standby for any surge in demand or private chartering. The Ferry has made 3700 voyages used by 105.5 thousand riders during the first half of this year, which warrants supporting the service. The Ferry shuttles between eight stations namely Ghubaiba, Marina Mall, Jaddaf, Water Canal, Sheikh Zayed Road, Water Front, Marasi and the Dubai Design District.
